Couch to 5K

C

Over the course of college, especially the last two years, I gained a tremendous amount of weight. I tried to stem this by going to the gym, but “going to the gym” meant driving over there a couple times a week and doing half an hour on the elliptical. A lot of things changed once I left school, and, through hard work and a complete lifestyle change, I lost an incredible amount of weight. I set more and more goals for myself.

And then I set another goal. I wanted to run. I had always connected not being able to run with being out of shape, as untrue as that may have been. Even after I lost over 50 pounds, I still couldn’t run (and by not being able to run, I mean couldn’t jog 60 seconds without nearly passing out). I never thought I would be able to accomplish it.

I’ve been doing 30-minute runs for the past month now (heat permitting ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan

I couldn’t applaud this plan enough. It goes to show… make a plan, start small, build gradually, and eventually, you’ll be able to do things you never thought possible.

  • Hi Zvi,

As fellow Washingtonians, it looks like we’re in the same boat together when it comes to the heat challenges of end of the summer DC weather! ๐Ÿ˜‰

That’s excellent that you’re doing 30 minute runs in this heat! I find I have to wait until after 9 pm to even consider running! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Luckily, there’s a well-lit populous area where I can run, even at 10 pm at night! That’s the ONE good thing about living in a city; you can always find places to run where they are still lots of people walking around at 10 pm! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’d be happy to swap CT5K training stories or share running resources. I’m a long-time runner, but hadn’t been running for a long while … until recently. You’re welcome to check out my running blog, http://seecoreyrun.blogspot.com, which talks about CT5K training, fitness & nutrition, running apparel tips, & a whole host of other related topics. I’d like to eventually train for a marathon at some point, but of course, that’s too way away to even contemplate!

I’d be curious to hear more about your fitness goals. Are you planning to enter any races? Or are you just running for overall fitness?

I’ve subscribed to your blog & look forward to hearing more about your running progress.

    Good luck with your training!
    -Corey
