As Contactually has continued to scale, I’ve given away more and more ownership of the company to the appropriate internal leaders. While I remain ultimately responsible, that doesn’t line up with having ultimate decision making. Any overriding of decisions risks undermining the ownership of the respective leader.
I find that, more and more, influencing the direction of the company requires less direct convincing, instead, subtle campaigning until the outcome is achieved. When it happens, it will be unclear whether my involvement had any impact. No matter, as the end state is all that matters, as opposed to whether or not I had any positive impact on it.
