Writing The Next Social Platform Won’t Be Individualistic

W

A few months ago, I wrote an essay that was published on Medium, The Next Social Platform Won’t Be Individualistic. If you haven’t read it yet, you should (no offense to my posts here, but it’s 10X better than any blog post I’ve written so far). There are two meta points about the article that I felt worth writing about.

I won’t bury the lede here, this serves as an underlying thesis behind what I’m working on now, which I believe has the potential for my next chapter, and perhaps most significant (hey Siri, set a reminder for five years from now to see if I regret that statement). It’s abundantly clear that restoring and deepening human connection is one of the most important challenges to solve, and the ventures that are harbingers of a new age possess extreme potential and value. It will take many explorers to pursue and unlock this, and I aim to lead one of these expeditions.

Second, this is also the first essay produced by my adoption of the Zettelkasten method. While my pace of reading has picked up, my memory retention still paces alongside goldfish. Countering that through excessive note-taking has only yielded a suggestion-box full of notes, ignored and begging to just be tossed. Following Zettelkasten (you can see my association of this to what we did in the relationship space with Contactually) has given me a framework by which to consume notes and highlights for further consumption. While more experienced colleagues have shared that Zettelkasten starts to actually shape how you think and make connections in your mind on the fly, the peace of mind knowing that I can easily recall interesting thoughts and notes has been immense. The eponymous essay was not only, therefore, easier to write, but I was also able to uplevel the quality of the piece overall due to my ability to instantly summon dozens of pre-crafted insights from books, articles, and podcasts and go to work fitting them into the outline I had constructed.

If you’re an avid consumer of information and feel that Homer’s concern hits a little deeply for you, the Zettelkasten method is worth investing time into.
